The Modern Futon to Sleep
Futon is the Japanese word for “blanket” and in the broader sense means “bed space / place to sleep.” Japanese futons are low, about 5 cm. tall and have an outer sheath with fillings such as cotton or synthetic material. It is often sold in sets that include futon mattress (shikibuton), a comforter (kakebuton) and pillow (makura). The pillows are stuffed with beans, wheat and black plastic beads. Futons are designed to be placed on floor mat and usually folded and stored in a closet during the day allowing the mat to air so we can use the room for other uses.
Futons should be vented to the sun regularly, especially if they are not removed during the day. Western futons, also known as modern futon, differ from the Japanese in many ways. They are usually filled with a mixture of foam and cotton and are in most cases much thicker, mimicking the size of traditional mattresses. Usually located over a frame used for two purposes: as a bed and sofa.
This furniture is more sympathetic audience among youth and young married couples segment to be a cheap alternative (although specialty stores is more expensive than a conventional one) to the bed and other furniture in living room. These futons are often sold in sets that include the mattress and frame. I must say that for their particular characteristics, most Japanese do not recognize a Western futon or a modern futon. Since it is increasingly popular, some online stores in the internet selling it to the customer.
